The Snellville Police Department is seeking applicants for the next Citizens Police Academy. The class runs 12 weeks beginning Aug. 30 and ending Nov. 15.

The class is designed to help citizens gain a better understanding of the risks and responsibilities of officers and to strengthen the bond of friendship and cooperation between citizens and the police department. Training classes will cover topics like domestic violence, traffic stops, building searches, narcotics identification and a tour of the jail. The program also includes a ride along with a Snellville police officer.

The program is open to all Snellville and Gwinnett residents 18 years and older. There is no charge for attending and participants do not have to live in the city limits to participate. A background investigation will be conducted on all applicants prior to acceptance in the Academy.
