A Smyrna woman surrendered to police Wednesday morning after a two-hour standoff with police at her home.

The incident began just before 6 a.m. when police received a 911 call from a home on Ivy Green Way requesting a "domestic welfare check," Smyrna police spokesman Michael Smith told the AJC.

"For a brief moment, we did have a hostage situation," Smith said. "The husband was able to get out of the house fairly quickly, and now it's just a barricaded subject with a female that's believed to be armed."

Police talked Susan Rasmussen, 53, out of the house around 8:30 a.m. She was armed with a pistol and a baseball bat, police said.

She was taken to nearby Emory Adventist Hospital for an evaluation. Rasmussen was charged with aggravated assault against her husband, Mark Rasmussen, 54.

No nearby homes have been evacuated. Smith said the husband and wife were the only two people in the house. Neither would tell police what set off the incident.

The incident happened at a home in the Vinings Estates subdivision off Cooper Lake Road.
