The Smyrna City Council voted unanimously Oct. 2 to set the annual fee for new cigar specialty shops, also serving alcoholic beverages, at half the rate of $3,100 instead of $6,200.

Last month, the City Council set a revenue cap of no more than 25 percent of the gross revenue from the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages on site at cigar specialty shops.

Since this restriction is half of the normal 50 percent revenue cap (50 percent food, 50 percent alcohol) for alcohol pouring, the Council decided the fee for a cigar specialty shop should be half of the normal fees.

Also, state law requires the pouring of alcohol on Sunday can occur only in association with food, according to City Administrator Tammi Saddler Jones.

That means Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages in cigar specialty shops will not be allowed.
