In a 6-1 vote Monday night, the Smyrna City Council approved a zoning variance for developer Michael Landry to build houses up to eight-feet taller than the current rules allow for the Lois Pointe neighborhood.
Some neighbors, including Wesley Bateman of Main Street, objected to the variance saying the new houses would block their views.
Only Councilman Jimmy Smith voted no. Councilman Ron Newcomb said that while he originally wasn't in favor of the variance, he thought that the taller houses could help raise the property values for the entire neighborhood.
