A proposal to allocate $2 million for sidewalks in north Henry County was rejected by the Board of Commissioners at its April 7 regular meeting.

Commissioner Bruce Holmes made the request for his district, saying that the citizens in that area had been advocating for the improvements for a number of years and he hoped the board could finally get it done. The money in question would have been taken from the county’s fund balance, which concerned several other commissioners especially in light of future economic uncertainty being caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Holmes moved to approve the measure but he did not get a second.

A subsequent motion by another commissioner to table the matter failed due to a tie vote.
