Two males were hospitalized Friday after being shot during an apparent northwest Atlanta home invasion attempt, police said.

Atlanta police are investigating the incident off Perry Boulevard late Friday morning that led to the homeowner shooting two suspected robbers, Atlanta Police spokesman Officer John Chaffee said.

The shooting happened shortly before 11 a.m. in the 1900 block of Drew Drive in northwest Atlanta.

The homeowner told police he saw a van stop in front of his house, then saw a male come to the front door and start knocking. A second male left the van, and also began knocking, Chafee said.

"As the victim [of the home invasion] was approaching the door, the suspects began to kick the door," Chaffee said. "The victim opened the door and at that time felt in fear for his life."

The homeowner opened fire on the two at the door, and they ran back to their van, police said.

The driver sped off, but the van and the two suspects — both suffering from gunshot wounds— were found a short distance from the house.

The two males were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where they were reported in stable condition, Chafee said. Neither suspect has been identified.

A third person remains at large, and police continue to investigate, Chafee said.
