The DeKalb County school district is planning to restore several employee furlough days next year and does not anticipate a budget shortfall in 2012, Interim Superintendent Ramona Tyson said Thursday in a system address.
The fiscal picture is an improvement for the district, which faced an $88 million shortfall last year. The district made cuts that amounted to $104 million and created a buffer with the extra cash, she said.
“Because of the work done over the last two years, it has positions this district to be in a very positive [place] for next school year,” she said.
Tentative recommendations include canceling all furlough days for 10- and 11-month employees, and canceling 11 of 15 furlough days for 12-month employees.
