Gwinnett County lost its second department head in recent weeks as Support Services Director Steve North resigned effective last Friday.

North had led the department since 2007. He will receive a severance of $108,484, including six months’ pay and accumulated leave time. His personnel file does not indicate why he resigned.

County Administrator Glenn Stephens said the Board of Commissioners is "interested in a change in direction" for the department. He said the county will conduct a thorough review of the department's organizational structure.

Stephens made similar comments last month when County Attorney Karen Thomas resigned.
