Hall county authorities were at Lake Lanier Sunday, conducting sonar searches for a 44-year-old man who went missing early Saturday.

Hall County authorities said dive teams will resume searching Monday morning for a 44-year-old man who went missing on Lake Lanier early Saturday.

Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said that because heavy weekend boat traffic creates hazardous diving conditions, crews were using underwater mapping to scout possible sites where the body may be located. Sonar mapping was called off Sunday because boat traffic was just too hazardous, Wilbanks said.

Jeffrey Nause was last seen late Friday when he entered the water from a boat near Lake Lanier Islands. Witnesses said Nause became distressed and disappeared underwater.

Authorities spent about four hours Saturday afternoon searching for the body, which they believe to be in an area thick with timber and where depths range from 70 to 140 feet.

The case is being investigated as an accidental drowning, Wilbanks said.
