When City Schools Decatur recently put a contract on four acres on Talley Street, planned site for a new school, it culminated a search for property that took nearly three years according to City Attorney Robert Wilson.

“We’re a dense city, and it’s hard finding land that isn’t undisruptive to the city,” Wilson said. “Plus, to build a school, we have to stay within city limits.”

The Talley Street property is currently owned by Chuck Bosserman, one of three principal partners of East Decatur Station. Two months ago another EDS partner, Jack Honderd told the AJC his group envisioned an “elementary school” on their property, that it “fits our vision as part of a complete community.” But Wilson said that Talley was one of the original properties he and Superintendent Phyllis Edwards identified when they first began searching.

“We found a number of potential sites,” he said, “but now almost all of them have been eradicated by development. At this point our options are very limited.”
