Decatur’s school board recently approved a tuition increase for the ages 0-3 program at the College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center. Current tuition is $1,000 per month for infants, $900 per month for toddlers. The raise will be $100 per student per month in 2015-16, $150 in 2016-17, and $150 in 2017-18 with families having multiple children receiving a 10 percent discount on the lower-paying child. ECLC’s 0-3 program has nine classes and is currently at capacity with 40 infants, 78 toddler/preschoolers and a current waiting list of 300. With the need for more elementary space on the city’s south side, Superintendent Phyllis Edwards has indicated that in the next five years College Heights may get restructured into a K-3 school, meaning a possible relocation for the ECLC.
