Sandy Springs has granted a zoning variance to Arlington Memorial Park on Mount Vernon Road allowing it to relocate an on-site roadway. Provisions of the variance include the cemetery improving and taking responsibility for a detention pond.

Neighboring residents spoke out in opposition of the variance, saying they feared the construction could threaten their property. They also objected to a variance allowing the cemetery to reduce the allowable stream buffer.

Council members Karen Meinzen McEnerny and Chip Collins voted against the measure.
