The Sandy Springs City Council has approved a conditional use permit allowing a private school for children in kindergarten through third grade to operate out of Dunwoody Community Church.

Dunwoody Christian School would make use of four classrooms at the church, 2250 Dunwoody Club Drive, according to school organizer Bob Baima. Each classroom could hold no more than 12 students, for a maximum enrollment of 48.

Classes are to start in August, meeting from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The school would enroll children in kindergarten through second grade the first year; a third grade is to be added the second year.

Speaking to the Planning Commission in January, Baima acknowledged his eventual goal was a K-12 school, but he said for that to happen, the school would have to move elsewhere. The church and school are in the Panhandle area of Sandy Springs, across the street from Dunwoody proper. Information: http://www.dunwoodycs.org/
