The Sandy Springs City Council has approved reimbursing Mercedes Benz USA more than $1 million for public improvements for in its new North American headquarters at Abernathy and Barfield Roads.

As part of a package of incentives, the city promised to reimburse the company up to $1,027,000 for improvements including sidewalks, landscaping and street lights; bicycle and pedestrian facilities; access streets and roadway improvements including dedicated turn lanes from Abernathy and Barfield; and utility relocation.

Mercedes submitted evidence that its total costs for public improvements exceeded $1.5 million.

The automaker’s $93 million complex encompasses more than 200,000 square feet of offices on 12 acres and eventually will house about 1,000 jobs. The company received about $27 million in state and local incentives to move its U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to Sandy Springs.
