Beginning in February, Sandy Springs will have a new city clerk: Coty Thigpen, who is leaving the same post in Alpharetta and replacing the retiring Michael Casey.

Thigpen has been Alpharetta city clerk since 2011, Sandy Springs officials said. She also served as city clerk in Canton.

Thigpen has bachelor’s degrees in sociology and political science from the University of Georgia and a master’s in public administration from Kennesaw State University. She also has certifications as a municipal clerk and finance officer from the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

Casey joined Sandy Springs as a records manager in December 2005, was named interim city clerk in January 2009, and was officially appointed city clerk the following June.

The city clerk is the official records keeper for Sandy Springs government, responsible for recording minutes of City Council meetings; maintaining contracts, ordinances, resolutions and agreements; and overseeing open records requests, officials said. Information: https://bit.ly/2FBDH04
