Sandy Springs has formed a citizens’ task force to develop a vision and plan to revitalize the city’s aging north end.

The area is a candidate for redevelopment because of low-density rental housing typical of the 1960s and 1970s, a poorly performing retail environment, and disconnection from other parts of Sandy Springs that are doing well, according to a staff report to the City Council.

The council approved Mayor Rusty Paul’s proposal for a task force and the appointment of 12 people to the group. The city also hired Civic Strategies Inc., an Atlanta consultant, to work with the task force.

The panel will focus on four activities, officials said: Citizen engagement with residents of the north end and other areas; work sessions to assess the current situation and explore different visions; organized feedback from landowners, businesses and nonprofits involved with workforce housing; and a written report of its findings and recommendations.

A final report is due before the council retreat in January 2019. Information: http://bit.ly/2pzO5vR
