A former judge and longtime community activist has announced his candidacy for the District 3 Sandy Springs City Council seat which came open with incumbent Graham McDonald’s departure.

Larry Young is a 26-year resident of the community and served on a pair of commissions and task forces that did ground work for the city’s founding more than ten years ago. He also served as a city court judge from 2005 to 2014.

McDonald resigned to run for the Georgia House District 52 seat.

Sandy Springs officials have set a May 24 special election to fill the post, with qualifying scheduled Wednesday through Friday at Sandy Springs City Hall.
