The Sandy Springs City Council has approved spending $335,000 to acquire the 19th property for its planned widening of Hammond Drive.

City staff said it negotiated the purchase of 6038 Harleston Road, a single-family home dating to the 1950s and its 0.47-acre lot. The seller is Kemin Elizabeth McCutchen, according to the purchase agreement, and the closing is scheduled for July 19.

Last month, the council approved spending $1.7 million total to acquire three nearby properties, also single-family dwellings built in the 1950s, for the Hammond project. Plans call for widening Hammond from two lanes to four, creating a divided thoroughfare with sidewalks and bicycle lanes.
