The Stone Mountain Community Improvement District recorded a steady run of potential problems during increased security patrols at the end of the year.

Private security reported turning away 11 suspicious people and six suspicious vehicles in two weeks of patrols. Organizers believe that vigilance will reduce property crimes and crimes against people in the area between Mountain Industrial Boulevard and I-85 in neighboring Gwinnett.

Businesses in the district tax themselves for the patrols as well as to fund roadway work and landscaping. The district’s goal is to create 2,000 new jobs in the area by the end of 2013.
