The Roswell City Council has approved applying for $100,000 in federal funds to develop a fitness circuit trail loop, the second phase of the new Ace Sand Park on the Chattahoochee River.
The council approved a resolution to seek the 2018-19 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant through the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Roswell will be required to provide a local match of 50 percent, or $100,000, according to a staff report to the council.
The trail, identified in the Roswell River Parks Master Plan of May 2016, will connect Ace Sand Park and Don White Park. Plans call for stabilizing the stream bank, restoring about 1,000 feet of the river, and installing interpretive signage with interesting facts about the river and Roswell, the resolution states.
Ace Sand Park’s first phase is to cost $1.75 million. To help pay for it, the City Council previously approved applying for a $750,000 federal grant, to be matched by $750,000 in city money.
