Roswell is installing signs and a pay kiosk and starting Thursday, Jan. 2, will charge for on-street parking on Elizabeth Way and part of Canton Street downtown.

"The implementation of paid parking is expected to encourage movement and turnover of the on-street parking close to several restaurants and shops in downtown Roswell," a concern of local business owners, according to a city announcement.

Visitors can pay at a kiosk pay station at the corner of Canton and Elizabeth by entering their vehicle's license plate number and using a credit card; or by downloading and using a Park Mobile smart phone app (www.parkmobile.io).

The first two hours of parking are free before 6 p.m.; after 6 p.m., the fee is $1 an hour for the first two hours. Fees are $4 for two to three hours; $6 for three to four hours; and $8 for four to five hours, to a maximum of $16 per day. Information: https://bit.ly/2QbUjyX

Free parking within walking distance of downtown remains available at City Hall; the lot on Green Street behind Fire Station 1; and, after 5 p.m. weeknights and all day Saturday and Sunday, the Hagan Center lot at Canton and Norcross streets.
