A boost in grant funds for affordable housing to Roswell, and the freeing up of prior grant monies, will make $237,964 available for a Habitat for Humanity project.

Roswell recently learned it will receive $143,925 in 2019 HOME Investment Partnership Program grant monies, up from $84,334 originally, due to increased funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to a staff report to the City Council.

After the council voted to accept those funds, it acted on $108,429 in 2018 HOME funding previously directed to the Drake House and HomeStretch Inc. “Neither organization was able to successfully expend the grant funds, and the city must now reallocate those funds,” staff said.

Habitat for Humanity has proposed spending an estimated $250,000 to acquire and improve vacant lots at 917 and 919 Upper Hembree Road, Roswell. It will build a new home there for ownership by a Habitat family. The council agreed to reallocate the 2018 HOME funds and part of the 2019 HOME funds for a total grant award of $237,964 to Habitat.
