In April, the Duluth City Council authorized immediate steps to stabilize the Rogers Bridge Park canoe launch due to significant erosion problems. Additionally, the council authorized staff to engage the services of Pond and Company to develop a long-term solution to the erosion issues.
Shortly thereafter, Pond and Company developed a long-term plan for stabilizing the canoe launch and Southern Premier Contractors Inc. was hired to perform the necessary work.
Now that the renovations to the launch are complete and the overall cost is known, the Duluth City Council voted July 11 to approve an additional $28,201 budget amendment to come from unallocated 2014 SPLOST park funds. Overall cost of the renovation includes $3,240 in engineering services and $24,961 in contractor services.
