Special Education instructor and longtime girls’ basketball coach Bill Roberts is City Schools Decatur’s teacher of the year.

Roberts, who also teaches language arts and civics, taught and coached at Jefferson High (his alma mater) and Salem High before coming to Decatur High in 2010. Although the award is based on his classroom work, Roberts has won 264 varsity games including an 88-32 record and four consecutive state tournament appearances at Decatur.
