Would-be burglars smashed through the back wall of a southwest Atlanta liquor store early Thursday in what the store owner said was her fourth burglary in four years.

This time, though, the burglars fled without taking anything after setting off a motion-detecting alarm.

The incident happened about 5:30 a.m. at Bonanza Liquors in the 2000 block of Campbellton Road. The thieves knocked two holes about 4 feet by 3 feet in the cinder block wall of the store.

Owner Julie Park  said the store has been hit by burglars four times, including one about two months ago. She said the store used to have security cameras, but the thieves took them down during one of the robbery attempts.

Park still was able to keep her sense of humor about the incidents, though.

"Some people ... they might be thirsty, they tried to come in to get something to drink, I think."

The liquor store is directly across the street from Campbellton Plaza shopping center, where last November thieves drove a vehicle through the front doors of the Rent-A-Center after first mistakenly crashing through the back door of a dollar store next door.

After that burglary, the assistant manager of the dollar store, Robert Pearson, told the AJC that several other stores in the shopping center had been burglarized in recent months.
