Ants, roaches and flies were present throughout the kitchen at Tandoor Indian Cuisine in Lawrenceville during a recent routine inspection.
The facility at 1365 Grayson Highway needed an overall deep cleaning, the Gwinnett County health inspector said. Shelving in the walk-in cooler and throughout the kitchen contained food debris. Equipment and storage containers were also dirty.
The restaurant had multiple risk factor violations resulting in a health score of 43/U. The food service permit was suspended while employees received on-site food safety training.
Tandoor Indian Cuisine also posted failing health scores of 49/U and 30/U in the fall, then improved to a 97/A prior to this latest inspection.
Among other code violations, employees were not washing their hands when returning from outside, or when changing gloves. Raw meats and other foods stored improperly on a food cart and were subject to cross contamination.
Yogurt, chopped lettuce and other mixed salad greens on the buffet were at unsafe temperatures and were discarded. Rice was also thrown away because of temperature violations.
Raw shrimp were being prepared in one of the compartment sinks designated for dishes. An adjacent sink was set up with sanitizing solution. The shrimp were moved.
Frozen raw chicken on the prep table was moved to a cooler to continue thawing.
Tandoor Indian Cuisine will be re-inspected.
