A Cobb County day care was cited for allowing a staff member to carry a gun inside the Austell facility.

Connection Pointe Christian Academy did not follow the state's concealed carry laws earlier this year when it allowed an employee to bring a gun inside the school, according to a complaint investigation report obtained from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning.

Under Georgia law, it is unlawful to carry any type of weapon on school property.

A child care program in the state is inspected by the department twice each year unannounced with the results posted on the department's public searchable database.

Following the March 15 inspection, the center's director instructed the staff member to put his or her gun in the car. The center, which describes itself as a Christ-first private learning facility, met all other guidelines outlined by the state.

Under Georgia law, teachers and other school personnel who may be otherwise authorized to possess or carry weapons should keep their weapon in a locked compartment of their car.

A manager at the facility was not immediately available when contacted by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday or Tuesday.
