Europe’s masterpiece “The Final Countdown” started blaring across Marietta Square about four minutes before midnight.

Folks in puffy jackets milled about, some blowing into those paper noisemakers.

Then the actual final countdown began — "10, 9, 8 ..." — before a model of the city's famous Big Chicken descended to mark the new year.

This is the third time the city has hosted a new year celebration. The first ruffled a few feathers when a man was lowered from a suspended box. It trended online as "#dudedrop" and didn't find many fans offline either.

The city first dropped a model of the 56-foot chicken that stars in many sets of directions throughout Cobb County to ring in 2017.
