For Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, the hits just seem to keep coming.

On Thursday, the Atlanta mayor will visit New York City, where he has been invited to ring the Closing Bell for NASDAQ.

Reed had planned on being in New York anyway for a speech at the Ford Foundation on how cities can continue to be engines of opportunity, creativity and vitality.

Reed will ring the bell from 3:45 p.m. until 4 p.m. In the meantime, excerpts from his State of the City address will run continuously throughout the day in Times Square.

"My job is to make sure Atlanta is the most important city in the Southeast," Reed said. "To that extent, it is important that people in the financial capitol of the world see that."
