A member of the board of the University of Georgia's student newspaper resigned Friday amid a controversy over editorial control.

The announcement of Ed Stamper's resignation was posted on the website of the Red & Black.

On Wednesday, students working for the newspaper, including the editor-in-chief, resigned. They complained that the board's new policies minimized student influence over editorial content.

Friday's statement, headlined as an announcement by the board, reiterated that students have final editorial say.

The board said it would welcome back the recently-resigned editorial staffers, including the editor-in-chief and managing editor.
