Dry weather should hold through early afternoon on Monday, but rain is expected to move in later in the day, and metro Atlanta and the rest of north Georgia could get a good dousing on Monday and Tuesday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service are predicting rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches before the soggy system moves out of the state by the middle of next week.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist David Chandley put the chance of rain at 40 percent late in the day to 80 percent on Monday and Tuesday.

Sunny skies should return on Wednesday and prevail through the rest of the week, according to forecasters. By Wednesday and Thurday, the weather should be looking very fallish, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s, Chandley said.

Afternoon highs will be in the mid- to upper 70s Monday through Wednesday, Chandley said. Overnight lows will be in the mid-to upper 60s through Tuesday, but could dip into the mid-50s on Wednesday.
