Public meeting on I-85 HOV toll lane Wednesday

Drivers can learn more Wednesday about the HOV lane of I-85 in Gwinnett County that is under construction to become a toll lane. The state Department of Transportation has scheduled a public meeting Wednesday evening with information about the project.  It is planned for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gwinnett Civic Center, on Sugarloaf Parkway, on the lower level in room 6ABC.

In the project, the toll price will rise and fall along with congestion in the main lanes.  The idea is to keep the toll price just high enough that people who can't afford it will stay out, thus keeping traffic moving at at least 45 mph.  State officials say it will provide an option for solo drivers caught in traffic who are willing to pay a toll.

DOT will close down lanes for the road work starting in mid-September, according to an agency spokeswoman.
