The four acres on Talley Street in southeast Decatur currently under contract to City Schools Decatur, doesn’t have contaminated soil according to current owner Chuck Bosserman.
“About 10 years ago we had two or three underground gas or diesel tanks removed,” said Bosserman of the site that’s often been a storage area for automobiles and various heavy equipment.
“In the years since, there’s been periodic remediation paid for by the [Georgia Underground Storage Tank Management trust fund]. We just got a letter last month saying no further action is needed,” he said. “We’ve satisfied all EPA requirements.”
In June, CSD put a contract on Bosserman’s four acres, then in July put a contract on two more Talley Street acres contiguous to though not owned by Bosserman.
Superintendent David Dude said he wanted more time to complete the due diligence process and didn’t elaborate on whether that included environmental remediation.
Former Superintendent Phyllis Edwards envisioned a combination K-3 school/4/5 Academy for the total six acres but Dude, who succeeded her last November, said there is currently no specific project planned.
