The Powder Springs City Council agreed to transfer to the Atlanta Regional Commission the city’s proposed comprehensive plan through 2040 while still seeking comments from city residents.

Springs in Motion Project Manager Laura Richter of TSW Design said the 178-page draft plan has been boiled down to three goals:

  • Town Square development - maybe with an amphitheater, a sloped lawn and play art for children.
  • Silver Comet Trail improvements to downtown, including a trailhead.
  • A downtown catalytic business such as a brewery, brewpub, farm-to-table restaurant or unique restaurant with bocce ball.

Through 2040, Powder Springs cannot expect to grow much without annexation and/or addition of apartments, according to the TSW Design draft plan. Now the plan will be forwarded to the ARC and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for review with return expected to the City Council for final adoption in October.
