The Powder Springs City Council voted 5-0 on Feb. 4 to pay $1,718,626 for transportation and intersection improvements on Powder Springs Road at its intersections with Flint Hill and Pine Grove Roads.

The award went to C. W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc. as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder.

In other matters, the Council agreed 5-0:

  • $35,851 to buy a Chevrolet Tahoe as a police vehicle from Charles Hardy Chevrolet. Funding will come from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and the Federal Equitable Sharing programs.
  • $9,336 to Cherokee Truck Equipment as the lowest responsible, responsive bidder for a six-cubic-yard salt-and-sand spreader.
  • 2,955 square feet accepted by the city for a stream buffer by Arbor Ridge Properties, the owner of a subdivision development known as the Vineyards. That subdivision contains a creek considered to be state waters which is required to be protected by a buffer.
