This month the Powder Springs City Council will hold three special called meetings to set the city’s millage rate for 2020 which will be the same rate of 9.5 mills as it was in 2018 and 2019.

The city’s projected tax collections for 2020 will be 7.64 percent higher based on the applicable rollback millage rate as calculated by Georgia Law because of increased property values and additions to the city’s tax digest.

Before the city’s final millage rate can be set, Georgia Law requires that three public hearings be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions regarding the proposed percentage increase - even though the millage rate will stay the same as the last two years.

• Noon Monday for a first reading, first public hearing and an introduction about the city’s 2020 millage rate.

• 6:30 p.m. Monday for a second public hearing.

• 6 p.m. July 20 for a third public hearing, second reading and adoption of the city’s 2020 millage rate.

All meetings will be held in the Municipal Court Building (Courtroom), 4483 Pineview Drive, Powder Springs.
