The Powder Springs City Council agreed 5-0 Monday to approve Christmas bonuses of $35,637 not only for city employees but also for Powder Springs Mayor Patricia Vaughn and themselves of $150 each.

The city’s employees, totaling around 80, also will be treated to a catered luncheon on Dec. 16 at a city facility.

Bonuses are based on a “years-of-service” scale with $600 to full-time employees, serving more than one year, $100 if full-time for six months to one year, $50 if full-time less than six months and $150 or $250 if part-time, according to the ordinance.

The money came from transfers from the city’s contingency fund of $23,256, leaving $51,744 in contingency.

Also, the funds came from savings on postage of $8,398, a vehicle of $3,445 and liability insurance of $538.
