Funding for the Bodiford House in Powder Springs should top out close to $800,000 in time for the grand opening from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The $25,000 for landscaping will come from this year’s additional tax revenue that was approved by the city council 4-1 Monday with Councilwoman Nancy Hudson opposed.
Built in 1923, the 3,600-square-foot Bodiford House at 4355 Marietta St. will house the city’s Seven Springs Museum that had been located on Brownsville Road in Powder Springs Park at the railroad tracks.
This house was bought by the city for $175,000 in June 2014 and has been renovated by The Macallan Group.
Partial funding sources have included $150,000 from the fund balance as a one-time use; $150,000 from the sale of city property on Florence Road at U.S. 278; $103,090 from the Cobb support services agreement; $54,500 from the general fund; $31,000 from the Austell Natural Gas franchise fees and $30,000 from insurance premium franchise fees, according to Diana Bellinger, the city’s finance director and now assistant city manager.
