Spalding Drive between Peachtree Corners Circle and Jay Bird Alley will close beginning Wednesday, March 1 through Wednesday, March 15, while Atlanta Gas Light replaces existing gas lines. Construction crews will be working from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Depending on weather conditions, the work is expected to be complete within 15 days.

To minimize traffic delays, traffic will be detouring onto Peachtree Corners Circle and Jay Bird Alley. West bound traffic on Spalding Drive will be directed to turn left onto Peachtree Corners Circle then right onto Jay Bird Alley and back to Spalding Drive.

East bound traffic on Spalding will turn right onto Jay Bird Alley then left onto Peachtree Corners Circle then back to Spalding Drive. The designated right turn lane from Peachtree Corners to Spalding Drive west will be closed.

Advanced warning signs will direct traffic, but drivers should be prepared to stop. A GCPD police officer will be at the intersection of Peachtree Corners Circle and Jay Bird Alley to help direct traffic.

During the hour-long ceremony leading to the unveiling of the statue of Martin Luther King Jr. at the state Capitol on Monday, many speakers, including Gov. Nathan Deal, spoke of King's biography.
