The bridge on Central Avenue between 1188 and 1200 Central Avenue in East Point is closed, according to a press release. Local businesses are accessible through detours on Bachelor onto Willingham Drive, and Colville Avenue onto Willingham Drive. The repairs on Central Avenue are anticipated to begin soon.
That area has had problems with a broken water main since last summer.
As a result of an August water main break the section of Central Ave experienced road surface, subgrade and storm drainage pipe damage and the road has been closed since the August main break.
The entire water main on Central Avenuie went through evaluation and design for the permanent water main replacement project. The roadway can’t be repaired until the water main replacement project has been completed. The road along the section of road where the August water main point repair was performed has been compromised and the city had no option but to close the section of road.
