Atlanta police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Friday on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.

Police spokeswoman Kim Jones said that just after 5 a.m., Officer Joseph Daniels stopped a vehicle at Hollowell Parkway and Ozburn Road that did not have on headlights.

"When the vehicle stopped, the driver made several attempts to get out of the vehicle, so the officer requested that another unit come to his location," Jones told the AJC.

She said that Officer Alton Jackson responded to the request for backup, and during the investigation, "the driver produced a knife and Officer Jackson fired his weapon, striking the driver on the wrist and across the stomach area."

The driver, whose name has not been released, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Jones said the officers were not injured, and Jackson will be placed on routine administrative leave while the department investigates the incident.
