Atlanta police were working Friday morning to determine whether two predawn shootings in the Grant Park area were related.

Police Capt. Adam Lee III said a man leaving for work before 6 a.m. was shot in the leg during a robbery attempt outside his home in the 800 block of Boulevard.

"His roommate came out as soon as he heard the gunshot and fired a round toward the suspect," Lee told the AJC. He said the roommate did not know whether he struck the suspect, who ran from the scene.

A few minutes later, a man showed up at the Chevron station at Boulevard and McDonough Boulevard with a gunshot wound to the chest, Lee said.

That man first told police he had been shot at an apartment complex on McDonough Boulevard, but later changed his story and claimed he was shot at a different location, according to Lee.

He said detectives are investigating the possibility that the second man was the gunman in the first shooting in the 800 block of Boulevard, "based on the time frame that occurred between the two shootings and the second guy changing his story about where he was shot."

Police have not released the names of the wounded men.
