For the third consecutive month, Weaver Capital Partners asked and received a deferral from Decatur’s Planning Commission for revealing its plans regarding the Oakhurst dog park. Chairman Tony Powers, however, said the developer needs to return May 5 with definitive options.
Weaver wants to purchase .6 of an acre, or about one third of the city’s oldest dog park, which is owned by the Samuel L. Jones Boys & Girls Club. Weaver has previously revealed two potential options, both including the purchase of one acre behind the dog park, called the “triangle property,” which is landlocked and undevelopable.
One includes building two homes on the .6 acres and donating the triangle property to the city as a dog park (which surrounding neighbors oppose). The second includes building one larger home leaving only the lower portion as a dog park, while the triangle property may or may not become a dog park.
