Gwinnett Commissioners gave approval Dec. 15 for expansion of a high-rise senior retirement community.

The senior housing development was approved in 2014, and asked to increase the allowable building height. The 3.45 acre site on the south side of Singleton Road, just west of Indian Trail/Lilburn Road, is directly across from Tech Drive in Lilburn.

The approved request will increase plans from one 10-story building on 1.98 acres to three 12-story buildings on 3.45 acres. A total of 448 independent-living apartment units are being proposed. The three buildings will be built in phases, with each building containing between 140 and 154 units.

The approved new site plan and elevations propose a maximum height of 165 feet, including rooftop gardens. Along with other conditions, all units are required to incorporate applicable accessibility standards known as “Easy Living Standards” including easy access step free features at each entrance, 32-inch wide doorways, and all units will be one level.
