Pedestrian struck and killed crossing Cobb County road

Cobb County police have identified a pedestrian struck and killed Friday evening near Austell.

Arthur L. Horne, 38, of Marietta, was attempting to cross Austell Road near Hicks Road just after 6 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a southbound 2004 Volkswagen Jetta, Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

"For reasons unknown, Mr. Horne walked into the path of the Volkswagen, which was being driven by 22-year-old Claudia A. Hopkins of Austell," Pierce said. He said Horne was not in a crosswalk.

Horne was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Pierce said Hopkins was not injured and is not expected to be charged.
