Peachtree City plans to install a lighted at-grade walkway to allow pedestrians and golf carts to cross Crosstown Drive. City Engineer David Borkowski presented the recommended design at the Feb. 15 City Council meeting.
The project was already on the approved list of projects to be funded by the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, but has been modified to add a flashing signal to warn oncoming traffic. An analysis of the site showed that more than 19,000 vehicles use that section of road daily, averaging 46 mph. That speed and volume requires a pedestrian hybrid beacon for better safety, Borkowski said.
The total project is estimated to cost about $200,000.
