The City Council of Peachtree City gave unanimous but cautionary approval Thursday to allow its staff to explore annexing 28 acres on the city’s eastern edge. A family-owned tract of undeveloped land currently zoned agricultural/residential is slated for a combination of commercial, office and residential construction. The plot, between Sumner Road and Ga. Hwy. 54, is in the unincorporated county. Annexation would allow the buildings to link to the city sewer system and give the city design approval.

Nearby residents expressed concern over the density of the project and effects on traffic. The council said a final decision on annexation would be contingent on satisfactory site plans.
