Peachtree City Public Works crews are working to contain and clean up a dye spill that occurred near the Flat Creek Nature Area and Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater on Tuesday.

Fire Chief Joe O’Conor said workers from Utility Asset Management, a contractor working on a stormwater pipe project, cut open an old tank of nontoxic concrete coloring and hosed out the container, which washed bright orange liquid into a detention pond but not into the creek.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division is monitoring the spill and cleanup; O’Conor said the colored water “is not expected to be harmful to the ecology of the area.”
