A proposed parking plan in Powder Springs would reduce parking behind long-time businesses on Marietta Street to make way for more green space on the square.
Although final plans are to be presented by Powder Springs officials at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Ford Center Reception Hall, 4181 Atlanta St., Powder Springs behind the Powder Springs Library, Mayor Al Thurman said the City Council will be taking no further action to approve or deny these plans. The plans are based on options chosen by the public during a Dec. 11 open house, said City Manager Pam Conner.
However, in addition to nearly 150 signatures on an online petition opposing the city’s new parking plan, about 50 people showed up to voice their disapproval during the Powder Springs City Council meeting on Jan. 16.
Diane Prevatt, owner of Hand Me Ups, a consignment store going into its 30th year of business told the Council the proposed parallel parking and designated drop-offs doesn’t allow enough space for customers and deliveries.
In March, two restaurants are scheduled to open at 4456 and 4458 Marietta St. Larry Evans, owner of the building, suggested a one-way drive with diagonal parking.
