Old Norcross Road in Lawrenceville in Gwinnett County was expected to be closed until 5 or 7 p.m. Saturday after a car slid on ice and a powerline fell.

As icy conditions remained on Gwinnett County roads, an SUV slid off the road causing a powerline to fall Saturday on Old Norcross Road, police said.

The generally busy road is closed near Parkside Club Drive near Lawrenceville until 5 or 7 p.m., Gwinnett police said. Power company workers were on the scene around 1:15 p.m.

The department is recommending people not venture out after ice and some snow fell on metro Atlanta on Friday night.

"Many roads are now dry due to sun generated thawing and wind allowing evaporation. (But) if travel is not necessary we are asking folks to just stay home today,” said Sgt. Rich Long. “This will allow the trucks and emergency units to work with less traffic around them.”
